CAPTAIN MASON MATEJCEK

MEET THE GUIDE

As a kid, my dad and I would walk into the Guadalupe Delta and duck hunt there. Not a whole lot of people duck hunted back then, so you could harvest lots of birds in easily accessible places. That is where I learned about duck hunting and decoying birds. Nowadays, a lot more work goes into the process, so being able to isolate yourself from other hunters in the airboat, carry lots of decoys and make temporary blinds is a huge advantage.

SPECIES WE TARGET

On the Texas coast, our two main species of birds are redheads and pintails. Bonus birds, as we like to call them, consist of blue wing and green wing teal, widgeon, gadwall, mottled ducks, blue bills, northern shoveler, goldeneye and more! I have yet to find a better place than the Texas coast to harvest mixed bags of ducks. An average hunt consists of 4 or more species of birds.
